In an effort to keep the citizens of Groton informed as to the status of the Verizon FIOS Television licensing process we would like to share the latest information with you even though we are not comfortable with the amount of detail we've been given to date by the company.

The Town initiated the cable television licensing process with Verizon in September of 2006. The last step taken was that the town provided Verizon with what is called an “Issuing Authority Report.” That was delivered in April of 2007. The next step is for Verizon to respond with an initial contract offer.  After missing an extended deadline, Verizon sent a representative to meet with the Groton Cable Advisory Committee at their request in January of 2008.  The representative stated that the necessary investment to build out their television service in Groton was not in the budget for 2008 and it is still unknown if it will be in the budget for 2009. He also stated that Verizon will probably not continue with any negotiations until that money is budgeted.
